A Slice of Heaven: Orlando's Top Two Pizza Places - Gitto's Pizza and Black Magic Pizza

When it comes to the perfect comfort food, nothing quite hits the spot like pizza and Orlando has no shortage of options to satisfy your cravings. Among the plethora of pizzerias in the city, two establishments have risen to the top: Gitto's Pizza and Black Magic Pizza. Join us as we delve into their inspirational stories.

Gitto's Pizza

In the heart of downtown Orlando stands Gitto's Pizza, a pizzeria with a rich history, mouthwatering flavors, and a dedicated daytime manager, Jorge Sanchez.

Sanchez is no stranger to the world of pizza. Having owned a pizza food truck in Puerto Rico for 15 years, he knows a thing or two about crafting the perfect pie. However, economic challenges pushed him to seek new opportunities, leading him to Orlando. Back in 2012, he walked into Gitto's Pizza, formally known as "Gino's," looking for a job. Little did he know, this encounter would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his pizza-making journey.

Sanchez's journey into the world of pizza began as a dishwasher in a pizzeria at the age of 17. His passion for pizza quickly led him to step into the role of a pizza maker, all through self-guided learning and observation. This spirit of self-improvement and fast learning has been his guiding force ever since. At Gitto's, he's not only maintained their high standards but has also introduced innovative creations like pasta bowls, and fun, seasonal delights.

Gitto's Pizza is a huge part of Orlando's history, being a family favorite for years. Housed in a historical building dating back to 1911, the pizzeria has witnessed the city's evolution over the years. Its prime downtown location makes it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, contributing to the vibrant nightlife of the area. It's a place where different people, cultures, and backgrounds converge to share their love for pizza.

"Everyone loves pizza, no matter where they come from," said Sanchez.

One of the secrets to Gitto's success lies in their dedication to maintaining consistency. With over 35 years of experience in the pizza industry, Sanchez understands that customers come back for the same familiar taste. From popular classics like meat lover and margherita to his personal favorite, the chicken bacon ranch, each slice is a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship he brings to his work.

Beyond serving delicious pizza, Sanchez has dreams of fostering stronger connections within the local community. He envisions collaborations with neighboring eateries and pizzerias to address issues like food wastage and hunger. His desire to give back to the community is evident in his willingness to help those in need.

So, the next time you're in Orlando, make sure to stop by Gitto's Pizza and savor a taste of history and flavor that brings people together—one slice at a time.

Black Magic Pizza

There's yet another delicious pizza joint that's casting its own "spell" on the local food scene. Allow us to introduce you to Black Magic Pizza, a creative haven for pizza enthusiasts, helmed by the dynamic duo, Travis and Elizabeth.

Meet Travis and Elizabeth, the magicians behind the flavorful creations at Black Magic Pizza. Not only are they the masterminds behind the recipes, but they're also a couple whose shared passion for pizza led them to embark on an exciting culinary journey. With a decade of experience under their belts, they set their sights on creating a pizza experience that's not just delicious, but downright magical.

"Black Magic was actually started out of desperation. COVID happened and all lost our jobs, and we already had Black Magic Pizza functioning as a concept, so we took the next step," said Travis

The couple started the concept as a pop-up and partnered with a variety of local bars and breweries to help them stay open during the pandemic. From there, they became even busier, continuing to attend more food truck festivals, and pop ups all over Orlando. In 2023, they found their brick and mortar spot at 121 N Bumby Ave.

The intriguing name "Black Magic Pizza" is a reflection of the boldness and creativity that Travis and Elizabeth infuse into their creations. Drawing inspiration from the magical themed attractions of Orlando and their own punk rock roots, the name perfectly captures the enchantment and rebellious spirit of their pizzeria. The couple is looking forward to eventually opening a larger brick-and-mortar space where pizza lovers can enjoy the full dining experience.

The city has fallen in love with the unique flavors and fresh ingredients in every slice. Their most popular item is the "Dr. Pepperoni," an elevated take on a more traditional slice.

"It's got red sauce, fresh, whole milk mozzarella and cupping pepperonis that get nice and crispy," said Travis, "then when it comes out, we finish it with a spicy maple swirl."

The innovation doesn't stop there, the team tries to create a new rotating pizza each week. They focus on using seasonal ingredients and pushing the limits of what goes on pizza. For example, their Sunday brunch pizza with fresh mozz and pears, finished with some honey and pistachios.

It's on us to kind of inspire others to have that culinary freedom because pizza in itself is just a big blank canvas, so we can really take anything and put it on there.

With Travis and Elizabeth at the helm, this pizza joint isn't just about crafting delicious pies—it's about creating an experience that captures the spirit of Orlando and their own culinary journey.
